Under the title The Arts and Migration(s): Reflections and Responsibilities, the annual conference of the European Alliance of Academies will take place 27-29 October (Mo-Wed) in Valletta/Malta organised by our Alliance partner Arts Council Malta.
The narrative on migration in Europe is increasingly shaped by right-wing forces, framing it as a threat within public discourse. Yet migration is a global and historically rooted phenomenon that has always been an integral part of artistic and cultural developments. The aim of the conference is to reframe the topic of migration and discuss it as a living phenomenon of great importance for art and culture in Europe.
We’ll start the programme with a Café Climate that establishes the connection between climate crisis and migration. On the following day, members of the European Alliance of Academies will have the opportunity to experience and engage with the work of local arts and cultural organisations and exchange ideas on the topics of cultural integration. The public programme including a keynote and a public panel discussion, tackle the importance of migration for artistic practice. In internal alliance meetings, we’ll discuss ideas and concepts for the future of the Alliance.
We look forward to seeing new faces and old friends and colleagues.
